Just 3% of Indians say digital workplace-life balance is ‘good’

February 10, 2025: Indians are struggling to maintain a balance between digital workplace and life, with just three out of 100 individuals, according to a survey, saying it is “good.”

Many individuals found it difficult to ‘switch off’ or move away from their devices, according to the State of Emotional Wellbeing Report 2024 by a wellness and counselling company, ItoI.

“Leaders must prioritise non-digital interactions and equip employees with better coping strategies to reduce unhealthy dependence on devices.

The increasing reliance on technology has resulted in individuals struggling with their well-being.”

The survey found that 37% rated their digital workplace-life balance as “optimal,” while 50% termed it as “inadequate” and 10% “poor.”

The report analyses data from 83,000+ counselling

sessions, 12,000+ elective screenings, and 42,000+ assessments conducted between January and November 2024.

Suicide risk

When compared year-on-year, suicide risk increased by 22% in 2024 and 14% of individuals reported being distressed before availing counselling, which has increased from 12% last year.

“Compared to 2023, mental health concerns grew to become the second-largest concern for which members sought help in 2024,” according to the report.

“The increase in distress and suicide risk underscores the importance of accessible, reliable and timely support. Acting early and preemptively is crucial to employee well-being.”

In 2024, 23% of individuals surveyed sought help on difficult workplace relationships. “They had difficulty with effective communication with managers and peers.”

Fifty-nine per cent of individuals referred by their managers displayed “some signs” of suicidal risk.

More than 90% of the Individuals under the age of 35 who opted for counselling screened positive for depression, anxiety or both.
